Trip Report: Harrison Arboretum and Botany Pond, 6/02/2020

Posted by

After eating lunch at BYU’s Aloha Plate this afternoon, I decided to take a walk around the botany pond. I then went for a second walk at around 4:00 PM. This report will synthesize both.

Here we are, at the edge of the LSB, about to walk into the beautiful arboretum.
A lovely, peaceful water feature.
Talk to my plants!
A huge part of the reason I’m including community parks and gardens in this blog is because they often have beautiful landscaping, which is essential for any themed entertainment venue.
Strolling over the cobblestone paths that wind through the trees…
Some benches
How high does the sycamore grow? (I have no idea what sort of tree this is)
So many honking mallards today.
Such a peaceful waterfall…I love the summertime when they have this running!
Don’t drop your phone in the river, Alex. Don’t want to waste valuable rice on that…
Time to go down the stairs to the duck pond…
Look at all these ducks. Look at ’em all, just chilling.
you need to look more at the ducks
Remember having a job and making money? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
Look up to the sky, see that I’m everywhere, SHINING DOWN ON YOU.
>:-)
Sitting ducks, and some turtles.
Heading back to the library now.
Love it
A lovely field of flowers.
For Round 2 of this afternoon, I went down to the mysterious concrete shed.
Who knows what secrets lie within its super ghetto depths?
Tranquil comes to mind.
Do not step on the special grass.
And definitely do not touch the prickly-wicklies.
In mid-spring 2018, I liked to chill here and read Catherine Asaro. I really ought to start doing that again.
I can never get enough of water features!
Almost dropped my phone in the water again; poor choice.
Hi duck
It’s time to pay a visit to the secret study pavilion!
A brief look skyward.
The excellent outdoor study table.
Little terrace feature.
Le waterfall
A wonderful moment of summer haze. It was peaceful and quiet, with the sound of the river and wildlife providing a backdrop to the stillness. Cotton floated through the air, and I imagined myself flying along with it, like a cloud.
Getting close to today’s turnaround point now.
This would be great to use for 3D work, but it isn’t seamless. Plus, it looks like I made a little mistake on the upper left-hand corner and caught the edge of the stones.
This is where we turn around, shortly before Brick Oven Pizza.
A mysterious tunnel! I wonder where it leads? (Hint: It’s the other side of the path.)
Heading back…
It was getting pretty dang hot at this point.
Falls

Overall, I had an enjoyable 2 trips down to the arboretum. Going forward, if I end up doing this walk a lot, I won’t report on it every single time; however, if I visit a different part of the path, or if something unique happens, or I otherwise feel so inclined, I will report on it again!
