First SCERA Park Pools trip of the season! I tried to get there at 12:30 when it opened, but ended up getting there around 12:40 or so. Upon arrival, I saw a large group of children, all dressed the same, lining up with a teacher near the entrance. So, it was imperative that I did the waterslides as quickly as possible. I also found that the admission fee was $6, not $5 as I thought it was, and that they now close at 6 instead of 7 (although you don’t really need all day there, in fact I usually only spend 30 minutes or so there, this sounds really inconvenient for people who actually have 9-5 jobs).
I started nice and slow, with the serpentine slide I call the Slug. As predicted, I almost slowed to a halt halfway through. However, by the second half of the slide I had picked up some pretty decent speed. And I was pumped to do the speed slide, the Purifier, next!
The Purifier was even better than I remember it from last year. It starts off nice and slow, so you aren’t afraid to get on. Then, the moment you hit the steep slope, WHAM! You’re flying. It’s positively exhilarating. And the best part? You actually skid across the surface of the water, for quite some time, before halting about 3/4 of the way into the splash pool. It really does feel like you’re flying.
After that, the dive pool and recreation pool were too full, so I just stowed my stuff on the grass and grabbed a swim lane. I did my swimming workout and it went pretty well, other than the lifeguard getting mad at me for hanging onto the metal bar thingies. Also, random kids kept swimming into my lane, so that was cool too I guess.
I still haven’t tried their concessions stand, hmm.
Ultimately, it was a great trip to SCERA Park Pools! I hope to come here many more times throughout the summer.
