Trip Report: Rotary Park (American Fork), 5/28/2020

Now that I’m back working in the office again, I have a cool opportunity to visit parks in American Fork during lunchtime! So starting on Thursday, I began the search, and I found Rotary Park. I came there to eat lunch and take a walk. I had a decent experience, but it could’ve been better.

Here is the table at which I ate lunch. No shade, but it’s not that hot yet anyway, and plus I have to get my summer tan going. There are also picnic pavilions, but they were already filled with families.

After finishing lunch, I began to take my walk around the park. This is when I quickly realized that there was no walking path whatsoever, except for a super short path up to the picnic benches. So I walked on the sidewalk that surrounded the perimeter of the park instead, and then continued my walk into suburbia (not pictured, because that’s lame).

A view of the trees and surrounding residential neighborhood.
There are two different playgrounds at the park, pictured here as well as the picnic pavilions. By the time I took this picture, one of the groups had moved out, which is why you see the empty pavilion.

Walking by the baseball fields. I don’t play baseball, but look at how beautiful this is!
Ya’ll don’t want to get hit by them flying balls? Why not?

The walk through suburbia was…crap. There was little shade, the houses were pretty run-down, and I had to step over random patches of dirt and weeds that stuck out from unmaintained front yards. By the time I reached a super ghetto car dealership, my lunch break was almost over, and it was time to head on back to the park.

Not gonna lie, these trees are pretty dang cool. They are enormous.
I love Utah in the summertime.

My conclusion from this is that Rotary Park is great for eating lunch and looking at trees. And the playgrounds are nice. But there’s not much else to it. Meh. I’m glad I went, though. It was a beautiful summer day — May and June are my favorite months of the year.
